There is no reason for panic!
Bosnian-Podrinje canton Gorazde, along with Herzegovina-Neretva Canton and Central Bosnia Canton were declared risky areas for possible break out of bird flu and the reason for this are river flows.
The Crisis Center in Gorazde was established on 25 October 2005 due to increased possibility of breaking out of bird flu virus in BiH. The Crisis Center is comprised of eight members – doctors, veterinarians, agricultural experts from the cantonal Ministry of economy and members of the cantonal Inspection office. They will monitor all happenings concerning the bird flu for the purpose of its prevention, it was concluded after the meeting in the Ministry of economy of BPC Gorazde and it was also said that that it would be necessary to provide protection equipment and disinfectants.
Since there is a noticeable panic, especially among rural population and/or poultry farmers, from this meeting was sent a message that there was no reason for panic, considering that there is no organized production of chicken meat in the area of this Canton, and according to opinion of experts, there is no immediate threat of bird flu breaking out in this area.
In all three municipalities of BPC Gorazde there have been established teams that will work in the field. Beside that, the citizens have been informed that they can contact veterinary station and the Civil monitoring center for all further information and detail instructions.
